Light Within, Light Without
I see the Hand of God and the Light of Love in you
and I feel as if I stand on Holy Ground
beholding the fire of Spirit which burns in you without consuming you.
I received a new Law
made from the old one…
I knew it all along, but had lost my way:
If we are not for the homeless, the jobless, the aimless, the lonely and lost,
it will matter little what or whom we are for.
And not just people…
I think of the forests denuded and cut down in their prime,
the animals who are homeless and disenfranchised.
I think of the winds who are lost, and have run off course on strange paths.
I think of all the planet’s resources who have been given empty jobs
at the service of industry, and ultimately, of greed,
resources who have been exploited and wasted,
spilled out like blood, shed because of sin.
Even the rock shouts, “Enough!”
The rivers cry, “How long, oh Lord?”
The clouds darken with grief and sorrow.
May we be filled with spirit-love and spirit-power
May our voices become large and strong and full of truth and courage
to tell the real stories
of how we got here
May we seek forgiveness and change,
rending our hearts and not just our garments.
May we become a Light for our People lost in Darkness,
a Light for the World,
sent forth from Light to bear witness to the Light.
