The Path of the Spirit
In the study of the mystics and saints, there are attributes that seem to unite them. Seeking these is a life long quest. These attributes include the following:
Accepting Others as They Are
Humility- from the Tao Te Ching- “The sage has no mind of their own. They are aware of the needs of others”
Humor – laugh deeply and completely without thought and with compete aband of self
Simplicity – like Mahatma Gandhi living dispossessed of the things and possessions that entrap our souls – like the sannyasi with a shawl for clothing, a walking stick and begging bowl – “living simply so others may simply live” is global ecologically based spirituality where resources are not squandered but sustained. Remove the clutter from our lives.
Pilgrimage – the journey to the spirit filled places of the planet where saints and mystics have walked before us. Reconnecting to their journey of Spirit reconnects us to ours. Leave behind the comforts of home and turn to the needs of our spirit and soul. Feel connection to Earth and Cosmos. Engage in the mystery of the journey. Become aware that we are all pilgrims passing through and from this life.
